Val di Chiesa – Costa Lazzaro - Ripe Rosse - Val di Chiesa

Distance: about Km 3 - Gradient: m 474 (300/774) - Time: 2.30 hours - Difficulty: very difficult due to the steepness and irregular pathways

 

Having left Val di Chiesa, you can just about see to the right, between the old dump and aqueduct, the beginning of a steeply rising path which arrives at the ridge near Punta Lazzaro (m 510). Turn to the left and go along the divide to the first fork. From here, turning right we climb up towards Fossa delle Felci (m 774). Going left we begin the climb down to the stony Ripe Rosse. The route winds along in the midst of a thick undershrub where we find many examples of heather shrubs, mastic trees, strawberry trees and Spanish broom. As we climb, the panorama opens out to include the entire island, the rest of the Archipelago and the Sicilian coast
